The workshop aims to bring together researchers and research groups working or planning to work with fish and wildlife telemetry data to

  • gather human competence on WRAM related data throughout Scandinavia and Europe,
  • make an in-depth inventory over existing local database solutions in Scandinavia and Europe,
  • explore the possible technical and legal challenges and needs to integrate local solutions in a common international open source solution,
  • build an international network of researchers and research groups who are willing to participate by sharing data and cooperation on the analysis tasks,
  • discuss possible organizational constellations, and
  • lay the foundation for an application to the Swedish Research Council for the 2009 application period for a full scale implementation of the WRAM database network.

Prelim. program

Day 1

  • Presentation of WRAM: Who? What? When?
  • Presentation of participants and their current WRAM related work
  • Technical approach - databases, networks, access
  • Legal approach - Data sharing contracts, data ownership, publications

Day 2

  • Group discussion in small groups:
    • Technical and legal preconditions and needs
    • Financing
    • Organizational issues
  • Presentation of group discussions
  • Plenary discussion
  • Outlook: Future networking & financing, and applications

Costs

Participation in the workshop is free.

Travel and lodging are arranged and paid by the participant.
We plan for a common dinner in the evening of September, 24th.

We kindly ask you to register online for the participation in the workshop not later than 2008-08-20 to enable us to plan the detailed program.
