Outline for college-level exercise exploring Movebank

This is an outline for a graduate school course exercise that Roland Kays, one of Movebank's leaders, gave a while back. It would probably also work well for an undergraduate class:

I gave a few slides and a demo of Movebank, then gave them the following assignment to do in small groups. Takes about 2 hours.

1. Get login
2. Browse data
3. Request access from instructor if necessary
4. Download data + environmental data
5. Prepare report that includes
1. Species, location, tracking method, PI
2. Data access rights
3. Data sampling schedule, duration, intensity
4. Make one or more figures (map, animation, graph of environmental data etc.)
5. Question you would want to address with these data
6. Improvements to study design that would let you better address your question
